Annie Leibovitz Teaches Photography | Official Trailer | MasterClass
There’s this idea that
in portraiture it’s the photographer’s job to
set the subject at ease. I don’t believe that. Robert Penn Warren was
writing about dying and death, and I just asked him
to take his shirt off. But it was more like I
wanted to see his skeleton. He didn’t have any
guard or shield. [PIANO MUSIC PLAYING] One of my favorite
photographs, Agnes Martin sitting in her painting studio. She said to me, “I sit here
and I wait to be inspired.” I love that. And so I said, “would you
just sit there?” Isn’t that what we all do? We wait to be inspired. [MUSIC PLAYING] All the work that
I’ve ever done, the ideas emanate
from that person. Stand over here,
present yourself. We’re so complicated
as human beings. There’s so many parts to us. That’s where the
ideas come from. Even in the most
set up situation I believe there’s
something really going on. [MUSIC PLAYING] I’m so not a technical
photographer. What camera are you using? [LAUGHTER] If that’s what you’re
thinking about, you’re not taking pictures. [MUSIC PLAYING] Oh, my God, Alice, so beautiful. When you first start
off, stay with one lens and see what it does. You may want to open
up, have more latitude. So when you go back, you can
actually bring it back down and go dark. [MUSIC PLAYING] I’m constantly trying to
emulate natural light. Where is the light coming from? She should fall into that
tree… Actually I love that. [PIANO MUSIC PLAYING] Photograph the people close to
you, your family, your friends. That’s how I learned. When you photograph
people, it’s about history. It’s about looking at our
time, and our culture, and our society
through portraits. You never stop seeing,
you’re seeing all the time. Don’t be afraid to be obsessed. Take the camera, go
out in the world. Find a way to tell a story
that means something to you. I’m Annie Leibovitz, and
this is my MasterClass. [MUSIC PLAYING]
What a waste of time and money

This photography queen. ❤️👑📷
Fuq I don't want to hear this woman anymore!!!!
Taste of Hungary, Philip Guyler
This seems like a cool and inspiring course.

why are photographers so weird
I know I am not the best photographer in the world, nor do I claim to be. I just shoot what I love and how I see it. I tell the story the way I see it. I try and see love through my lens. You are in my ears, nothing perfect, just shoot the love. Thank You, Annie, for letting me tell the story the way I see it.
She said she's not a technical photographer but she owns a HASSELBLAD that is $50,000 !!!! No joking here. Photography is about camera, and starting with a terrible DSLR is just gonna ruin all your inspirations.
Excelente trabajo!
You should do a public speaking masterclass
I think your production team should take a masterclass…
I haven't watched any of this series and I imagine I'm taking this out of context but her first statement: "The idea that in portrait photography you're supposed to put the person at ease… I don't believe that."
Taking that at face value, what I've seen is that most people you'll shoot — non-celebrities, people who have little to no experience in front of a camera — are going to be weirded out by you and your camera. They suddenly become incredibly self conscious and unsure. You've "disturbed" their sense of self with your presence. You have to put them at ease if you want them to be themselves, otherwise you're going to get the O.O deer in the headlights look. Not a good look. I keep seeing this commercial playing on the Youtube videos I watch and it always strikes me as out of sync.
I imagine with celebrities it's different. They have cameras in their face all day long and that IS natural and normal for them. "Putting them at ease" IS destroying their identity. But how many of us are out shooting celebrities?
what is the music in the back ground, sounds like Hanz Zimmer
I love This video!
шлюха, сколько можно это рекламировать. Я любил тебя раньше Энни
why does this have 11 million views lol
She could barely construct a proper sentence throughout this masterclass. And the videos as a whole were very unhelpful for someone who's looking for inspiration and ideas. What a DISAPPOINTMENT.
So touching!! What Annie just said after 1:38, that is what I'm going to shoot for my up coming photographs!!
MASTERCLASS REVIEW – https://youtu.be/KCkH69VZTbU
I think a soccer masterclass would be a good idea
that hasselblad..
this was so fucking inspiring that now i want to take on the world
Stunning!!! So amazing trailer I can’t believe I’m watching repeating this over and over
I purchased the course. I was expecting more technical aspects of her work. Though I was disappointed in that regard, it was still worth the payment to understand her perspective in greater detail. She covers some of the things that we shouldn't be concerned about as photographers. That alone provides some wisdom to ensure that you are not wasting your time with things that don't matter. Too many times as photographers we want to know settings, lenses, focal lengths etc. What Annie covers is that beyond those and to understand what is truly important. It is the mindset of a famous photographer that is more important. How did she overcome her challenges and what made her look at photos in a different way.
professional useless people
1:48 that pic or Arnie on the horse is almost as good as the one of Putin riding the bear.
I watch the trailer I thought not again not another photographer then I watched the trailer and kept watching then you said I'm not a technical photographer I was hooked thank you.
“I’m so not a technical photographer… What camera are you using?(mockingly)”
uses a $30,000-$50,000 medium format Hasselblad
Imagine if they got Kojima? Holy shit that would awesome
amazing video!!
ADORE THIS WOMAN SHE IS BRILLIANTLY ARTISTIC
wOw BRIT TAKE A YEAR OFF AND DO THIS !!!!!!!
Lol, 1:47 is my favorite.
:03 That photo of Nick Cage tho 😆
Arnold Schwarzenegger on that horse though
He thicc
There's really nothing to learn from these 'Masterclasses'. They just talk fluff for several hours. They don't get the concept that talking isn't teaching.
I can never bring myself to skip a Masterclass ad…
The add is following me around. "This is how AI-iiiiii shoot". Just die! How can you be so cruel with this ad? Assholes
for those of you wondering on what the music is called, its called: Soaring Horizon by philip guyler on audionetwork
She inspires me 😊
Hell yeah. Literally no one can even think about sensor size while releasing a shutter button. It is physically and mentally impossible!
– Camera does not matter.
– But… but you are using a hassy.
(People who comment this should watch an old series called "Pro Photographer Cheap Camera Challenge" by the legendary DRTV (though now the legend is not there anymore)
I LOVE her style of photography, so unique
I like this breek surfaces contrast in life, royld crying poor happy
"I am so not a technical photographer.
What camera are you using?"
Everyone laughs.
"If that what you are thinking about, you are not taking pictures"…..
The next clip, she has a 45,000$ Hasselblad in her hand.
Duh

0:53 SHE TOOK THAT PHOTO???
I love this ad … lol said at least this person lol
Take my money already!
The class was excellent.
Wow — Genius —
One camera can't do the job — I use over 4 — each one is very different — lighting is the key — not the camera
0:52 is that Yoko ono?
Song name?
This was a horrible "class"
Everything found in these videos can be found on Youtube about her.
She doesn't teach.. she just talks about her way of seeing things. Blah…
I actually love to watch this Ad….It's very inspiring…That quote about sitting and waiting to be inspired — me 100%
Beautiful..
yo these ads i cant not watch or skip lol especially this one
A lot of negative comments from Photographers who have not reached her level of photography. In any art form there is the technical side and the emotional side. For all these people chiming in with their negativity, show your website and let us see if you even compare to the work she has done. She has been doing photography for decades and yet you have the audacity to criticize her and her work? She has taken photos of the most iconic people in Hollywood, the music industry, and government. If you have not done what she has done, please keep your negativity to yourself. If you haven't reached her level of photography, you are just being a jackass with your jealousy. She doesn't need to "scam" us. She already has a lot of money. So those curious about her work and this master series, buy it. Even if you get only 2 or 3 tidbits of wisdom, maybe it will propel you in your photography. Keep on being awesome Annie Leibovitz!
This ad was so good that I liked the video that the ad appeared on by mistake… I forgot this was even an ad! Woah.
She is SO full of crap!!!
She is part of a small, exclusive clique. They promote each other and exaggerate their talents. If Whites were to to do the same it would be called "racism." Just about anyone can do what this woman does. What they lack is a clique of promoters who support them based on race. In short, she is grossly overrated.
Is that a guy? Looks and sounds like a guy.
"Camera doesn't matter" doesn't mean "If you use high end technology, fuck you" it means "Don't be bothered by what camera you are using."
She may have an entire team dedicating to photography, but you should know that most of her photos don't actually require those teams nor were they there when she took them. What I like about this masterclass is that you can just watch it and then go out and start doing what she's doing immediately. You don't have to wait a million years to get the equipment you THINK you need.
funny how ppl pay for someone to just take a shitty picture, rofl..
i-i * skips*
How do I block this commercial on YT? I watched this at least a dozen times.
"What camera are you using ha ha haha ha haha"
A Hasselblad MF, a mother f'ing 33 thousand dollars Hasselblad MF.
Ha ha haha ha hahaha….
1:03 and 1:18…..the very best comments from her!….my publisher Ed once told me " go out and smell the roses"……..meaning dont take photography TOO SERIOUS!! enjoy it!
Overrated
i kind of feel the video itself is a masterclass. in marketing, . . .etc.
but I do not mean to disparage the content of any such “course”. If I werea photographer. would want to connect with Annie… definitely. I would even love to interview her. . . just words, about the thousand words in pictures. 👏👏
I think master class is great but when they introduced her I was disappointed, she is a horrible photographer I have seen how she does her work she has a hole team that works on her lights becouse she does not know shit about lights and how important it is in photography, she even says she's not a technical person but technical aspects are half of photography. If you look at her raw photos and then the finished edited product you can see layers and layers of edititing, it starts to look like a painting and does not look real, she has a really good editor that does all the work. And lastly her work looks ugly it makes my eyes bleed and she's mentally ill when her dad died she just took pictures of him like what person would do that, I don't understand why she's so famous and loved she's a monster and sucks at her job.
Most overrated photographer of all time.
Name of the background music please
It's cool Annie's a genuine photographer but its cringe how she pretends to be soooo deep… give me a break. All you need to understand is rule of thirds, go out and shoot everything you can have fun and dont waste money on this antique nonsense.
"I'm so not a technical photographer"
We all laugh high five
BUT THEN
uses only Hasselblad, most expensive gear, and entire production crew
Her photos look like dogshit and ive seen this ad so many times that it makes me hate them more and more
You can enroll in Annie's MasterClass at: https://mstr.cl/2XSSzgj
They should invite Daido moriyama for masterclass
Find inspiration, never wait for it…
Sorry but she is a weirdo and I have a feeling that she is into weird stuff.
1:32 what software is it and what technique is used?
amazing stuff 🎯

This is very inspiratoinal my fav quote being "I just wanna see his skeleton"
What kinda dumb cattle would pay for her shit???
love this trailer…..especially that photo of Agnes and what Annie says about her……..She is capturing time standing still in a moment…..magical….its about feel…..great magical photos….
What I can NOT stand is…..attending asian cultured events (bon dance) and because I now shoot for a newspaper, those attendees dont understand and I often get pushed around and "STARED AT" in a meanful way just because they "think" I am showing off or wanna act like media (ahh..I am media??) and of course….they think i attend just to hook myself up to some female!!!!
I love this ad
Real art
MasterClass is full of deluded lucky celebrities who think that their talent and hard work is what led to their success. There are many people better at their field than them but who were not fortunate enough to win the lottery in the competitive arts.
If you're worrying about your camera you're not taking pictures—cut to me using medium format. lol
I subscribed to MasterClass, hers being one in which I was interested. So far, her class has been all antidotal…. nothing that really inspires the viewers own creativity. Even the assignments are uninspired.
Was that Leonardo DiCaprio I just saw??
Love, love, love you. You are one of my big inspirations.
you inspired me
If we can get Annie to do it, why not Deakins??
Lovely
