BIG Architecture Competition Diagram Style by Show it Better

Hey guys, what’s up welcome to show it better and today, we are going to see how to make an architecture Diagram competition style like big oma. Etc etc So here you guys are seeing the model that I’m working with it’s the model that I downloaded from the 3d warehouse And I just did a quick sketch of this building. so what we want to do is put this in parallel Projection and we’re gonna do two things export a clay rendering and export a line Image right so for the clay rendering you go to you’re going to go to v-ray settings then you’re going to go to the settings part and Make sure the material over-ripe option is on So everything will look the same material and your render output. It has the image size you want it to be and a very high quality that’s basically it and remember you have to have a parallel projection on and You just click render, and that is it for the first part You have to make sure the light is right you know you don’t want everything to be in shadow so it’s like kind of like 12 o’clock midday in this image and After you render that you want to put the line Mode and export it as a PDF because we’re going to import that into illustrator When you after you export that and import it into illustrator You’re going to see you know as you can see here on the screen that all the lines have the same thickness and they look You know all very thick so there’s nowhere that Call your attention right so what we’re going to do you guys can see here all the lines are just very big what we’re going to do is just select all the lines and Lower the stroke right now It’s at one point And we’re gonna put it into point twenty five points right so now you guys can see the detail is much more visible it’s much better and The next step, we’re going to do is we’re gonna make our building stand out more by outlining it and in Stronger light now. I’m a very basic illustrator guy, so I don’t know much tricks But so I’m just gonna click the line tool. Just like that it has one point of stroke and just Add a stroke around the main building that’s basically what I’m gonna do So let’s make sure the stroke is not too, big you know this just has to be proportional to the whole image, right? Once you do this you know, it’s Once you do this. That’s your decision You know how much detail you want to go in you know another option is to put another stroke That’s not .25 And then it’s not one point like .75 and add it to the edges of the building as you guys can see here So it kind of stands out a little bit more and it differentiates itself from the windows and you know the smaller details, so there’s going to be you know a Clear reading of the building You guys, can you know perfect this Illustrator all day some of you for some of you this image as it is is good so you know you can use it in your in your presentation boards but what we’re going to do is mix this with the clay rendering in Photoshop and Add different types of diagrams, you know like the uses diagram, vegetation etc. So you’re going to open Photoshop, and you’re going to import your clay your rendering? and as we can see here it has kind of a shadow a kind of like bluish and Kind of bluish yellowish, so what we’re going to do is turn it black and white so it doesn’t have this tone And you can do this by Putting an adjustment layer and putting black and white and we also want to make it a little bit brighter I think we’re gonna do that later, but we’re gonna make a little bit brighter so the shadows aren’t To pull different and just want them to kind of stand out Then you’re going to import your PDF file the one you already saved in Illustrator In to your Photoshop file you’re going to scale it so they they match I don’t know why mine didn’t match, but you know it has to match And you have to make sure you know all the lines can be seen correctly It depends you know how difficult your model is So as you go as I was telling you you may want to turn up the brightness And lower down the contrast so the shadows aren’t that dark and everything is kind of like white and now you know now you see that we have that look it looks very very cool and Yeah, it just looks very cool That is our base image right like with that, some people you know for you this image could be perfect as it is But what I’m going to do is create a series of four or five diagrams with different explanations of what The building is about so here. I’m creating a vegetation Diagram, so I’m using the tree brushes, which if you have it I think all of you have the brushes by now But if you don’t have the brushes the link is in the description and you can also download this This this file for free in the description as well if you want to I don’t know take a closer look at it And what we’re going to do just I’m just cropping everything up, so it’s just more focused and it’s not that of an image You know it depends on your taste And how your presentation board is going to be so I’m gonna save this diagram as the vegetation diagram? Then I’m going to erase those layers that have the trees and green parts And I’m going to you know make an emphasis on another thing like for example the plaza or for example Windows or the urban you know those big windows are behind You know you can have 20 diagrams of this which is not what I recommend. I recommend Having diagrams that I talked about the main characteristics of your building, right? So you don’t want to talk about everything from this diagram? But you want to talk about the things that matter you know the plaza matters do the windows matter the green space matters That’s it. That’s what makes the identity if you’re building it it can be really debatable, but I recommend 4 or 5 diagrams maximum So I’m just I think you know what you also have to do to achieve that That the arching goal is that OMA’s look is having Colors that stand out a lot better highly saturated that are main colors You don’t want a soft palette, but you want some hard main colors. That’s why I’m choosing these colors, right? That’s very important as well then we’re going to open InDesign, which is I don’t know most of you know but I Made all my presentation boards in InDesign I think it’s the best tool, and I want to make a tutorial later about InDesign But for now, I’m just going to make like a little little mini board of how this would look So I’m just you know, it’s InDesign is pretty pretty basic from my point of view just select the paper size, then you import the images and Now I’m going to add all the text and you know place them in The space where I would want them to be you know so if we have all of this ready It’s just ready to export into the real presentation board or if that is your presentation board that’s all right so you know make sure you select a Typography that is not too Flashy, just just pretty basic so people can read it easily I’m using Babas neue, I don’t know how to pronounce it, but it’s a pretty common font Which you know serves the purpose So you want to have this Like a big title that explains what the diagram is about and if you want Optional you can have a small text that explains You know much more about it so for example in Vegetation you can put you know the vegetation and this side is used for the as base and that the uses the plaza Or if everything the corners oppose a glass to do this this and that so it adds adds much more Body to the whole diagram schemes right so this is basically There’s different ways of doing it you know a lot of more details You can put in it some people do this all in Illustrator, which is fine like this is not, I’m not saying This is going to be the workflow that Bjarke Ingels uses, totally not. I think he uses another workflow This is a workflow that works for me, and I think has a similar look to what they do. I think I want I hope you guys like this video. I’m going to subscribe and you can download this File in the description. Thank you for watching
