Creación de retratos bordados – Curso online de Sol Kesseler

August 9, 2019 6 By Peter Engel

Hi, my name is Sol Kesseler, and I’m known
by my work name, Bugambilo. I’m a visual artist
specializing in portrait embroidery with a technique
that captures the essence of a gesture or the tension of a look,
with strokes of thread and needle. My work has been published
in magazines like “Fiber Art Now,” “Para ti,”
“Be Creative with a Workbox” or “Elle,” as well as private art collections. I feel a special connection
with portraiture because it allows me
to synthesize a gesture into one line and express a mood through an image. I love creating surfaces that allow for two readings of an image. At first sight, the representation
of a spontaneous gesture, or the tension in a look. And up close,
the search for a tactile sensitivity. In this Domestika course,
you’ll learn to work the portrait genre with a non-traditional
embroidery technique that will allow you to translate
what you see as light, shadow and volume into stitch lines. The final project will be the creation
of an embroidered portrait, combining traditional techniques with a very modern outlook,
and using the theory of color to create compositional balance. We’ll start putting together
the sewing box, then I’ll explain what a portrait is. We’ll find a photo
that we’ll use as reference. We’ll select the palette
using a color wheel, we’ll see color temperature,
and how to work the grays. I’ll show you how to draw your sketch, and transfer that design to fabric. We’ll work on lineal points to define eye expression,
nose and mouth. Using dégradé and locking stitch, we’ll work around the hair area,
trying to capture the movement. I’ll show you how to dress
your subject using appliqué, and I’ll show you a pattern to fill out large areas. Last, we’ll make a comparison between the photo and the embroidery,
and I’ll give you some tips to finish up the project. At the end of this course, you’ll be ready
to create wonderful portraits, while reconnecting
with an ancestral craft. For this course, you don’t need
any drawing or sewing skills, only the will to practice
and learn something new. I will show you how to simplify the work process. You’ll need a ball-pen,
or pen and India ink, paper or sketchbook, carbon paper, a reference photo, a stand and hoop,
color wheel, fabric, needles, and thread. This course is aimed at anybody who wants to create portraits
using only thread, needle and fabric. Portrait embroidery with lines and dots is an innovative form of art
with surprising results. Discover a new craft and create amazing works
that will add value to your profile. Creation of Embroidered Portraits
