Make the Cut: Behind the Scenes with Imagine Dragons
Action My name is Matt Easton. I’m directing this new Imagine Dragons
music video, Believer Adobe is partnering with Imagine Dragons
to make all of the footage available for the public to re-cut in
whatever creative way they want to. Someone else can create a totally different
world out of the exact same footage. We’ll have our video and then
we’ll have the fan video. I can already see how the first
comment is going to say ‘This is better than the original’,
it’s going to have 10 million likes on it. I was an editor first.
I think that’s a strength. When people know what
the editing process is like, when their on set they know
when they have all the right angles. So when I direct
I always edit what I direct. I heard the song ‘Believer’,
they let me hear a sneak peak. It felt like a big powerful song. I like this idea of a young boxer
fighting an older version of himself. This internal struggle. The lead singer, Dan, he’s 6 foot 4.
We’re trying to copy him. Then I came up with the idea; what if we could get
Dolph Lundgren to do this. He was the Russian in Rocky. How awesome would that be
to have him box against Dan. Come on, Dolph Lundgren
in a boxing music video? Dolph is like a boxing icon. I’m most excited to see
what someone would do without a shotlist or a storyboard
and they see all this raw footage. The hope is that people
cut in Premiere Pro, but incorporate as many
of the tools as possible. After Effects, Character Animator,
Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator. The more creative, the more
out there, the better. Best of luck to all the people
taking the Adobe challenge. Lose yourself in the footage. Lose yourself in Dolph’s pectorals
that are twice the size of mine. 10 years ago
if I heard about my favorite band giving footage from a music video
to re-edit it, and isn’t it 25,000 bucks?
Ya, I’d be all about that. You just have to make me
look good, Okay? Or else I’m going to have
to come and get you.
