Street Photography: Cosa ci attrae in una foto? [IT – sub EN]

What is it that unconsciously attracts us by looking at a photo? And what is it that, beyond the technical standards, attracts our attention? In this video I tried to identify 10 elements that attract our attention by looking at a photo Welcome to the Street Photography Scool Except that a photo must be perfect from a technical point of view so for what concerns for example the composition, or the focus, etc. today we will talk about what is more mental, psychological what unconsciously attracts our brain while we look at a photo a short time ago I was thinking about the fact that, while I browse the hundreds of photos you sent me I often stop automatically on some that catch my attention So I tried to understand why this happens to me every time So, I’ve identified 10 items that raise my attention every time I look at a photo today we will discover them together through your photos Let’s talk about the number one element: The paradox by definition, it is the description of something that contradicts common opinion or daily experience thus managing to be surprising, extraordinary or even bizarre So even in photography, when we encounter a situation that contradicts reality, we are inevitably attracted to it Number 2: The similarities since childhood our brain works for similarities especially when it sees something it does not know, it looks for something that is similar to give an explanation So when in the same photograph we find two elements that look alike it’s as if this archaic ability of our brain resurfaced, making the photo interesting The third element is irony Irony is often present in Street Photography It can be expressed in different types of situations These are photos that tear us a smile but we must not confuse them with comedy Sometimes irony overlaps the paradox but in reality irony culminates with a smile, while the paradox is not always Element number 4 is Minimalism a clean photo with few elements, sends our brain into a kind of comfort zone it must hardly reason, and we enter a kind of state of calm when we look at these photos so we are very attracted to these photos Element number 5 is the Exaggeration everything that is large, unconventional, exaggerated, immediately attracts our attention, like being in front of a fireworks display Think for example, when we are in front of a large monument or in front of the spectacle of nature Even in Street photography, everything that appears exaggerated attracts our attention so it makes that photo interesting Element number 6 is Symmetry Symmetry, like minimalism, gives us that sense of order and calm in fact symmetry is the opposite of chaos everything that is not chaotic relaxes us photos in which symmetry prevails attract us and relax us in looking at them precisely for this sense of order, where everything is in the right place Element number 7 is the emotion Each photo somehow moves us but there are some in which the emotion is so evident, so obvious, but above all so immediate, that it causes us instant involvement Think for example of war photos But even in street photography there are particular subjects or situations that provoke strong emotions Number 8: Breaking the Pattern On this topic I made a whole video, I leave you the link here on where I talked extensively about harmonic patterns In essence, it is the element that breaks a pre-established order and that attracts our attention our brain is already attracted by the repetitive order present in this type of photo and it becomes even more so, when there is an element that breaks this order Element number 9 is optical illusion Like children in front of a magician, we too are attracted to photos in which the various elements present give us the optical illusion of something that is out of reality In the well-made ones, we don’t even have time to understand that it’s a surreal reality, and we have to think and decompose the elements of the photo The surreal is the main element of these photos and inevitably our brain is madly attracted to them Finally number 10: the retro effect We all look with interest at the photos of the past and, mind you, we are attracted to them even in cases where from a technical point of view they are not perfect perhaps because the present elements no longer exist, or perhaps because the colors or the grain of those old analog photos, project us with nostalgia to the past The fact is, that modern photos, which have elements inside them, or posts produced with clear and references to the past, attract us a lot black and white therefore, is not only an artistic choice, but also an unconscious attachment of our mind to the past These are obviously just some of the elements that attract us to a photo Let me know in the comments what attracts you most or what you are looking for in a photo I remind you then, that from March the live will start here on the channel. We will talk about photography, also about issues that we have dealt with today, but above all, we will comment on your live photos together So if you want to participate with your photos, go to our Instagram profile where there is a post where I explained the steps to send the photos So if you have not already done so, subscribe to the Instagram profile where there are always many news Having said that, I hope I have given you some indications on what each of us can attract by looking at a photo Obviously I want to know your opinion, and I’ll meet you at the next video here on the channel hello everyone and thank you
