Student Beginner Tutorial Part 1: Creating and Manipulating Sketches in Siemens NX

This initial video will demonstrate how to create and manipulate simple sketches. In the ‘Sketch Task Environment’ we can specify the location of a sketch we want to create. Now I will select a curve type that I want to create The rectangle I am creating is a two-point rectangle. This means 2 clicks are necessary for creation. As seen, values can be inserted into the dialog box that appears at the cursor to easily insert known dimensions. Inserting these values here creates driving dimensions. Double clicking the auto-dimensions enables you to edit the value which also updates the dimension to a driving one. Now I will add and trim some curves using the commands in the ‘Direct sketch’ group of the Home ribbon The bar just above the graphics window is called the Top Border bar. Here you can specify your selection intent. As seen here my selection intent does not include ‘Endpoint’ therefore I am unable to select it. Now I just switch the toggle on the Top Border bar Now I will create a tangent constraint between the arc and the straight line by merely left-clicking both entities and selecting ‘Tangent’ in the ‘in context dialog’ I can also create driving dimensions from selecting a auto-dimension and setting it ‘to reference’ in the context menu as seen. It is also possible to mirror a set of curves if you are modelling a symmetric model. Playing around with the selection intent shows the different ways of selecting the curves for the mirror command. Thanks for watching!
