Hi friends of the art lab My name is carla and today we’ll talk about greeting cards I have a rough sheet of cardboard and I folded it in half and since I’ll use watercolour markers I’ll put tape around it because every time I work with water and brushes I wany the paper to be stable so it doesn’t crumple always remember to let the colours dry before untaping the paper otherwise it’ll crumple anyway you should be quite precise with the tape also in the middle on top of the fold so our greeting card will have a nice white frame I’ll start by drawing with my black permanent marker to make some simple drawings I’ll put an heart and a couple mountains you can put anything you want Like a football ball or a tennis racket if you make it for your mom you can put a paintbrush if she paints for example you have to customize it yourself the important thing is to keep it simple so you can then easily decorate it and with simple motives I’ll start with some triangles I want to use the three primary colours to make this drawing on this greeting card the three primary colours are cyan, magenta and yellow cyan is similar to a light blue magenta is similar to red and yellow is yellow 😀 I’ll start with partly filling in the triangles with light blue I won’t colour them with precision because I’m using watercolour markers so I don’t have to fill in the triangles completely because with a brush and some water I’ll spread the colour later I’ll use different motives for every “colour zone” with yellow I’ll make this chessboard pattern and colour it the same way the third colour is magenta red I’ll make this “wave” pattern or scales if you prefer and colour them the same way I’ll make it in parts following the black lines and filling the parts one at a time if you don’t have a permanent marker and you use a normal black marker you should make the black lines after having put the water to not make a mess with a small brush and some water I’ll dissolve the colour and fill in the gaps with colour it’s quite easy and fun 😀 after the light blue I won’t clean the brush and fill in the white parts it’ll become a lighter tonality of light blue and everything will be colored it’s important to not touch the light blue lines because they will dissolve as only the black lines are permanent I’ll leave a small frame while making the white triangles to not dissolve everything and to have the right effect that I want I’ll repeat the same thing with the yellow and then with the magenta red always without touching the lines after having finished, as I said, I’ll wait for it to dry or dry it with an hair dryer and then I’ll be able to remove the tape after that I’ll be able to add words for example “best wishes dad” or “I love you” of course the greeting card can be folded and inside it you can add another drawing or more words today’s artwork is now done hope you liked it 😀 if you want more ideas visit my facebook page my youtube channel my new website with a lot of new things and some upcoming stuff www.scuolaearte.it my name’s carla, happy art to everyone 😀
